Portrait Sketch

All of my portraits have a lot of shading, so this was an attempt at as little as possible. Done in 2011.

It's been a Year

Wow, it's been a year since my last post! Don't worry, I've still been doing art here and there - but I don't have as much time as I used to.

So what have I been up to? I've drawn 2 portraits [one is still incomplete, I haven't decided how to finish it yet], as well as customized my own flats. I've also drawn two characters from Up! for fun. Pictures will be slowly uploaded - but I'll try my best! :)

Gel Pen Eyes

Done! I decided to keep them black and white, since it seemed to be more striking that way. To be honest though I only really like the right eye...the left seems a bit off. Unfortunately I can't erase any of it and re-do it, but overall it turned out well!

Gumiho

A Korean nine-tailed fox, the Gumiho is known as a trickster and scary monster. However, a recent Korean drama - My Girlfriend is a Gumiho - has made light of the fables surrounding this story and turned it into a comedy. Here is my take on the Gumiho - two quick doodles and 6 little Gumihos playing on their name.

Character Sketches

I like the kitty the best...

Storyboard

This is a quick 4-part sketch I did while at school. It's an attempt at storyboarding, though I realize that this is nowhere near what professionals do, and is in reality for like a comic than anything. I'm going to the library to borrow some books, so I'll improve quickly!

NOTE: start at the bottom right corner and work left, then to the top right corner, then left again. I know it's presented in the wrong order...but I drew the last sketch first before I decided to continue the idea.

Portland Metro Scholastic Award

I won the Silver Key Award for my portrait! I entered this just for fun [I'd only recently heard about the competition before the submission deadline], and was ecstatic to find out that I'd won an award! This competition is held annually in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program, which is sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

Kidney

Sorry for not posting anything! School has been a whirlwind of major tests, assignments, and projects. Here is a drawing I did following a kidney dissection I performed in my Anatomy and Physiology class. I didn't have a blending stump so the shading is not great, but overall I'm pleased with how it turned out. The dissection itself was really fascinating, and you can see on the right hand corner all of my notes on the sections of the sheep's kidney which my partner and I were able to identify.

Splatter-paint

Here is the finished portrait! I took my inspiration from a photoshoot from ANTM [Thalia], but changed her expression and shifted her face a little. I also made up my own splatter paint pattern. One idea I've been throwing around is using actual splatter-paint...I'm not too sure how it'll turn out but it should prove eventful!

Rawr

This is Leo. He's a blue snow-leopard which I painted before the Thanksgiving break, but didn't have time to scan or upload until now. He got a little washed out from the scanner, I'll upload a better picture in a bit. Enjoy!

Finished Portrait!

Here is the finished portrait! I apologies for not posting earlier, school started and I've been busy with loads of homework and volleyball. Hope you like it! [This is the first of a set of 3 commissioned work]

Eyes - Angle Profile

You might have noticed that I like to draw eyes... Here is quick snapshot of a work in progress, I was inspired after looking around on deviantart, and decided to try a new "medium". Gel Pens. I'm currently deciding whether or not to continue with smokey greys and smouldering blacks or go with the route I originally planned on, the fearsome uncharted territory of color.

OWL!!!!!

While I haven't actually found my drawing...I did manage to dig up the original picture which i based it off of for any readers out there [I know there are a few, if you become a follower you can get updates! ;) ]

Isn't he majestic though? That's one of the reasons why I chose this picture, that and the eyes really were things I aimed to show in my drawing.

[Fun Fact!] Owls have an innate fear of one another, and so when they take a mate it takes some time and is for life. I can only assume that in the end, they have an extremely strong bond and trust for one another... [more fun facts here: http://www.stumblerz.com/fun-facts-about-owls/]

Absence

Hello Again!

I'm really sorry I haven't posted anything in...a month or so, I went to Taiwan for some time and never really had time after that to post! I promise to post something soon though, I've got a doodle in the works.

Eye[s] can be...

the window to someone's soul. So they say, but even if not the soul, eyes are probably the most expressive feature we have. Since I draw portraiture, I decided to practice drawing eyes... and though overall I am pleased with how they turned out, I'll admit they look a little creepy altogether on the page. See for yourself!

[B/W] 1/3 Portrait - 4th Block

So much work still to be done! Here is the portrait after a 20 minute block, as you can see I worked on the clothing and big shadow on his forehead. His eyes need quite a bit of work still [the proportions don't totally work] and the face in general needs a little more depth. These next two weeks are a bit hectic, but I will post another block as soon as I can!
